The American press nicknamed him 'the Crocodile' after a bet that he made with the Captain of the French Davis Cup team. He had promised him a crocodile-skin suitcase if he won a match that was important for their team. The American public stuck to this nickname, wich highlighted his tenacity on the tennis courts, never giving up his prey! So his friend Robert George drew him a crocodile wich was embroidered on the blazer that he wore on the courts.
He was René Lacoste.
